MONEY INTERVIEW WITH THE MERRYMAKER SISTERS

If there is one thing I know after being in the finance game for over a decade, it’s that money is a personal thing. Everyone has different methods and views on how to manage their money and for me it’s always fascinating to put in place a strategy that suits the way each individual person sees the world.

I am privileged to talk about money with families, individuals and businesses every day of the week, and over the years I’ve accumulated some gems that I think everyone could get something out of. Over the last month or so, I have been speaking to awesome local businesses, who have generously shared their money habits, view and tips and I’m super excited to share it with you all.

To start off this new blog series, I spoke to none other than the Merrymaker Sisters. If you know of the Merrymaker Sisters, then you will know what you are in for: super awesome positivity and some seriously useful tips! If you haven’t heard of the Merrymaker Sisters, then you are in for a treat. These Gold Coast ladies just generally know how to live an epic life, and if you are ever lucky enough to meet them, you can’t help but smile from ear to ear. They have generously answered questions about their business and money and I know you’ll love it. Ok, enough from me now, welcome to the Merrymaker Sisters:

Q1) In a nutshell, what is the Merrymaker sisters website all about?

We want anyone who comes across the Merrymaker Sisters to be able to leave with an action step to live a healthier, happier life. Whether that be with a delish recipe, mindset tip or business inspiration from our #MerryBiz podcast.

We started it all because we discovered a different way of living. We were fed up with counting calories and sick of the guilt we felt after eating, with low self-esteem and super confused by all the information that was being thrown at us.

We were in this obsessive whirlwind of fad diets, quick fixes and negative body image. ‘Health’ to us used to mean: losing weight, eating less and more exercise.

We found another way, a much more fun and delish-filled way to live and we share it all over at themerrymakersisters.com and across our social media channels.
Our philosophy is less stress is best, in every possible way. ESPECIALLY when it comes to food.

You have better things to do than feel guilty about past meals and anxious about what you’re going to eat next.
Life doesn’t have to be controlled around the food you eat. When you live a Merrymaker Lifestyle, you eat real food. We don’t care if you’re paleo, vegan, vegetarian, bulletproof, etc.

The Merrymaker Lifestyle is about adding more GOOD to your life (and your plate!).

Q2) How long into the journey of the Merrymaker Sisters did you realise you could quit your jobs and what was the major catalyst for that?

After 3 months of starting the Merrymaker Sisters we knew we wanted to make it a business. We knew nothing about business, blogging or how to create a business from a blog. But we just knew THIS was it. So we learnt as much as we could… well we pretty much tried, failed and learnt on repeat. Having fun along the way of course!

The catalyst for us quitting our super secure soul sucking government jobs was… the whole soul sucking part. We needed to get out before we went mad!

But the real catalyst was when we asked our managers to have a year without pay to pursue our dreams of full time Merrymaking and they said no. We said stuff that and 2 minutes later sent our resignation emails! Then went to a long lunch. Best decision ever!

Q3) What is your relationship like with money?

We’ve always had a scarcity mindset when it comes to moolah, as in.. we never ever have enough money. It’s taken a lot of time, work and practise to get where we are now… which is an abundance mindset, that feeling of we have everything we need right NOW. We certainly are not in the abundance mindset all the time (heck no!) we have money freak outs, but we say it’s all about how fast you come back.

We spend lots of our money on going out for delish dinners and travelling. We used to be shopaholics, not so much anymore. We don’t really budget, but we do monitor our money and spendings (haha). Money is important because it allows us to lead the lifestyles we want. The more money we make through Merrymakers means the more new stuff we can create.

We also love and believe in this quote… we think it might be by Will Smith, not sure.

“Money and success don’t change people. They merely amplify what is already there.”

Q4) What is your personal number one money tip?

Focus on what is working and making you money. So if you get leads, sales, website hits from Facebook but not so much from Instagram… spend less time effing around on Instagram!

Q5) What does a perfect weekend look like to you?

Good company, good food, exercise, belly laughs, and sunshine!

Q6) what are you working on at the moment?

Ahhh ma gosh we are working on so much awesome stuff! About 2 months ago we had this weird realisation that we stopped creating, so within 3 days we started a bunch of new, fun and exciting projects! We have a recipe app coming out (so excited about this!) which is pretty much all our website recipes available in a phone app. Our new recipe book is available for pre-sale now, it has 90 brand new recipes in it (the link is here: http://www.themerrymakersisters.com/get-merry/) PLUS we are working on our first live event: MerryCon! It’s going to be a fun, delish filled day, with amazing speakers, inspiration and action steps to live your happiest, healthiest, most epic life!

What to find these lovely ladies? Of course you do…..
